The Bernard Drive Street Improvement Project is set to commence this week in Buffalo Grove. The initial phase of the project will concentrate on the eastern section from Lincoln Terrace to Buffalo Grove Road.
This portion of Bernard Drive will be narrowed down to a single lane accommodating one-way eastbound traffic, allowing for the completion of underground utility work, as per a post on the Village of Buffalo Grove's Facebook page. Westbound traffic will be rerouted west along St. Mary Parkway, then south on Lincoln Terrace before returning to Bernard Drive.
According to information on the Buffalo Grove website, Bernard Drive, being one of Buffalo Grove's oldest streets, has infrastructure that is nearing its end of life at 50 to 70 years old.
The village has conducted a study on the project area spanning from Buffalo Grove Road to Arlington Heights Road. This study included engineering work addressing both environmental considerations and infrastructure assets, as stated by the Buffalo Grove website. The water main in the eastern section was replaced and pavement patching was carried out throughout the area in an effort to extend the lifespan of the driving surface until comprehensive reconstruction could take place.
As outlined by the Buffalo Grove website, given that Bernard Drive stretches over 1.4 miles, the project has been divided into three sections - east, central, and west - and several phases.
