State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) has introduced Senate Bill 2740, aiming to guarantee parking accommodations for disabled individuals living in condo buildings throughout Illinois. The legislation seeks to mandate accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities within condominium communities, addressing a current gap in the law.
Sen. McConchie emphasized the importance of the bill, stating, “No individual should encounter obstacles in accessing their own home, which is why this legislation is essential.”
The need for such legislation is underscored by a story from NBC Chicago 5, where a local resident with a disability was compelled to purchase an accessible parking space for $60,000 after relocating to a new condominium with no available accessible parking spots.
In a video discussing the bill, Sen. McConchie reiterated the significance of ensuring comfortable living conditions for individuals with disabilities, stating, “This legislation is necessary to ensure that people with disabilities can live comfortably wherever they need to.”
Senate Bill 2740 has successfully passed through the Judiciary committee and is scheduled for consideration on the Senate Floor.
