County officials have announced that a “big project” is set to commence in Fox Lake, involving the year-long closure of Washington Street for construction at a busy Route 59 intersection. The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) confirmed the upcoming closure, stating that Washington Street will be closed to through traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Monday. The project, known as the Route 59 and Grand Avenue Intersection Improvement Project, will result in the road remaining closed to through traffic until its anticipated reopening in the spring of 2025.
A detour route has been outlined for affected motorists, who are advised to use Route 59 to Devlin Road to Rollins Road. While local traffic will still be permitted on Washington Street from the north and south ends, the work zone will be inaccessible to all traffic.
