The City of Lake Forest will spend $250,000 to buy up to six used police department vehicles before being reimbursed by a state grant. The city will enter the grant agreement with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
According to the Lake Forest City Council's May 20 meeting agenda, the council authorized City Manager Jason Wicha to approve used police vehicle purchases for a maximum of $250,000 during its March 18 meeting. State Sen. Julie Morrison had notified the Lake Forest Police Department that it had been awarded the $250,000 grant for public safety-related administrative expenses from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
The grant funds will be used to purchase six unmarked vehicles, according to the city council's May 20 meeting agenda. The vehicles that will be purchased are at or past their expected lifespan and will be used by the investigation and administrative sections.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity recently asked the city to execute the grant agreement by the end of May, according to the city council's May 20 meeting agenda. The agreement was being reviewed by the City Attorney's Office.
