A fatal crash involving a pedestrian in unincorporated Wauconda on the night of August 7 is under investigation by Lake County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigators. The male pedestrian was crossing Route 12.
According to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a car striking a pedestrian at approximately 9 p.m. on August 7 at Route 12 and Old Rand Road. Upon their arrival, they located a 39-year-old Arlington Heights man who was injured and without a pulse. A deputy performed CPR on the man, who regained a pulse. An ambulance transported him to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Camry driven by a 68-year-old McHenry man was traveling northbound on Route 12, according to the news release. As he drove north, the pedestrian was crossing the road. The driver did not see the man and his vehicle struck the pedestrian. The Toyota's driver was not injured.
An autopsy is being scheduled by the Lake County Coroner's Office, according to the news release. The Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues its investigation.
