Work to upgrade an 8-inch water main along Deerpath Road between Green Bay Road and Western Avenue with a larger capacity 12-inch water main began the week of Aug. 12. This first phase will last approximately one week.
According to the city's Deerpath Water Main Replacement project web page, pipes and valves will be replaced within the Deerpath and Green Bay Road intersection to prepare for the water main replacement. The upgrade aims to improve water pressure and reliability for residents and businesses in the area.
Most of the project will occur in early 2025 in coordination with the city's Deerpath Streetscape project, according to the same source. That project is expected to begin in spring 2025.
The project schedule is designed to take advantage of low traffic volumes following Lake Forest Day, making it less disruptive than during the school year, according to the project's web page. Work will pause and resume early next year after this phase is completed.
Only one lane of traffic will be open on Deerpath while work is ongoing, with flaggers directing traffic, according to the city's Deerpath Water Main Replacement project web page. Motorists should expect delays and take alternate routes if possible. Green Bay Road will be closed to vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic from Westminster Road to Illinois Road. Residents with homes between those two roads will be able to access their driveways. The detour route for north/south traffic on Green Bay Road will be Westminster to Oakwood Avenue to Illinois Road. Working hours will be Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and if needed, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional hours are possible to complete the project quickly.
