Lake County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Fox Lake woman who they said fled at speeds of more than 100 mph on Aug. 19. It was not the first time the stolen Dodge Charger had fled from Lake County law enforcement in recent days.
According to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, a deputy found the stolen Dodge Charger at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Aug. 19 near Washington Street and Route 21 in Gurnee. The deputy followed the vehicle until additional deputies and area law enforcement could respond. After traveling westbound, the sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop near Rollins Road and Drury Lane in unincorporated Grayslake. The driver of the vehicle fled westbound on Rollins Road at high speed.
The news release stated that as the motorist approached Hook Drive in Round Lake Beach, she turned off the headlights and turned onto Hook Drive, a residential neighborhood. Sheriff's deputies discontinued the pursuit because it was in a residential area. They continued to check the area for the vehicle, which was found abandoned in the 1900 block of Hardwood Path.
According to the news release, Lake County Sheriff's K9 Odin and his handler tracked the suspect from the abandoned Dodge through several wooded backyards before locating her hiding between two bushes. Kristina M. Krause, 42, of the 200 block of Grand Avenue, Fox Lake, was taken into custody and transported to Lake County Jail.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office approved charges against Krause: unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle (class 2 felony), aggravated fleeing to elude (class 4 felony), and aggravated speeding (104 mph in a 45-mph zone). Additional charges are possible. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
