A Beach Park man was taken into custody by Lake County Sheriff's K9 Danno after he allegedly hit and choked a woman. Deputies were dispatched to a manufactured home in the 38700 block of North Sheridan Park, Beach Park, for a domestic battery in progress.
According to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, the 911 caller at approximately 6:45 p.m. on August 31 told sheriff's telecommunicators that her boyfriend hit and choked her. She was able to leave the home, and deputies established a perimeter around it. The suspect tried to escape out of a window but retreated after seeing sheriff's deputies.
Sheriff's deputies and K9 Danno entered the home to arrest the suspect. According to the news release, he hid under a bed and refused to follow deputies' instructions. He was warned that if he did not surrender, K9 Danno would be released. The suspect refused to surrender, and K9 Danno was released. Danno bit his arm, and then he surrendered. After evaluation by paramedics, the suspect was transported to the Lake County Jail.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office charged Ruben Ruiz, 26, with two counts of domestic battery and obstructing a peace officer, according to the news release.
