The Rick Kahen Commission for Residents with Disabilities and the Buffalo Grove Rotary will host "Bowling with Buddies" on Wednesday, October 30, at Bowlero. The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on October 1st.

According to a Village of Buffalo Grove news release, Commissioner Mark Weiner of the Rick Kahen Commission for Residents with Disabilities (RKCRD) said, "This event is truly one of a kind." He added that many participants return each year and request to bowl with a 'buddy' they were previously paired with.

The village's news release indicated that the bowling alley will be closed to the public, reserving lanes exclusively for participants. Both bowling and dinner will be complimentary for those attending. Volunteers from the Rotary Club, referred to as "Buddies," will provide assistance as needed. The event will feature a Halloween theme, encouraging participants to wear costumes. Bowlero is located at 350 McHenry Road.

The release also mentioned that this marks the sixth Bowling with Buddies event since its inception in 2018 when it began with 34 participants. The event has now reached full capacity, with nearly 100 participants registered.

Judy Samuels, Chair of RKCRD, emphasized that the event focuses on community support. She expressed that the commission enjoys facilitating fun evenings for residents with special needs while fostering relationships. The RKCRD aims to address concerns and needs of citizens with disabilities by collaborating with the village and other governmental bodies to enhance their quality of life. Additional events sponsored by the commission include Buddy Baseball and Fund & Food activities during Buffalo Grove Days annually. Looking ahead, RKCRD plans to host its first Buddy Baseball Fall League and is organizing a spring fling dance event next year.
