A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Lake Forest City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at the Lake County Gazette, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, specifically seeking a list of all council members. The requested information includes each member's name, title, year appointed, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiration date.
As a media organization committed to public service journalism, we believe that access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have also sought a fee waiver for this request as it is directly linked with our role in gathering and disseminating information to the public. We are currently awaiting a response from the Lake Forest City Council regarding this FOIA request.
