FOIA Request Sent to Vernon Hills Police Department Regarding Arrest Records from 2018 to Present on December 12, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Vernon Hills Police Department in Illinois on December 12, 2024. The request was made by us at the Lake County Gazette, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all arrests from January 1, 2018, up until the present date. The requested details included arrestee name, arrest date, arrestee gender, arrestee race, arrestee's date of birth, and the crime committed.

As members of the media, we at Lake County Gazette are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the Vernon Hills Police Department regarding this FOIA request.
