FOIA Request to Deerfield Police Department Regarding Comprehensive Arrest Records on December 12, 2024.
In a continued effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Deerfield Police Department in Illinois. The request, sent on December 12, 2024, specifically asks for a list of all arrests from January 1, 2018, up until the present date.
The information sought includes the following fields: Arrestee Name, Arrest Date, Arrestee Gender, Arrestee Race, Arrestee's Date of Birth, and Crime Committed. This data is essential for us to continue our work in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As a media organization dedicated to informing the public about important issues in their community, we believe that access to such records is crucial. We have requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.
We have also asked for a fee waiver as part of our request. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for this waiver due to our role in disseminating information.
We will continue to keep our readers updated as we receive more information from the Deerfield Police Department regarding this request.
