On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Hartsburg-Emden Community Unit School District 21. The request, made by Lake County Gazette, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contained specific keywords.
The requested records should contain the terms “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. The request is part of the Gazette's ongoing efforts to gather and report news to the public, holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency.
