On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the North Greene Unit School District 3 by the Lake County Gazette. The request sought access to copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contained specific keywords.
The requested keywords were "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study". The Lake County Gazette, known for its comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, believes that access to these records is crucial in fulfilling their professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As a media organization, we at the Lake County Gazette are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to such public records allows us to provide comprehensive coverage on matters that directly affect our community. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
