North Shore School District 112 announced that two of its staff members have been honored with the Illinois State Board of Education's "Those Who Excel" awards. These accolades recognize the contributions of educators whose dedication helps students grow and succeed.
Jill Baranowski, a speech-language pathologist at Braeside Elementary School, received the Those Who Excel Award of Special Recognition. According to ISBE, this honor celebrates educators who are "valued members of their school community" and are acknowledged "for the skills, passions, and talents they bring to their school community. "
Douglas Smithenry, a first-grade dual language teacher at Oak Terrace Elementary School, was recognized with the Those Who Excel Award of Meritorious Service. This award salutes educators who "go above and beyond in service to their school communities" and whose contributions "uplift the culture of learning in their school," according to ISBE.
"Jill and Doug represent the very best of North Shore School District 112," said Superintendent Dr. Michael Lubelfeld. "Their passion for teaching, creativity in the classroom, and commitment to student growth set an inspiring example for our entire school community. We celebrate their achievements and are grateful for the profound impact they, and all our educators, have on shaping a learning environment where every child can thrive. "
The Those Who Excel program annually tributes educators who have made significant contributions to their schools and communities. The recognition of these two staff members from North Shore School District 112 highlights the district’s dedication to nurturing students' growth and inspiring a love of learning that shapes future leaders.
Ms. Baranowski and Mr. Smithenry will be recognized along with more than 500 educators from across the state at an ISBE banquet in May.
