Illini Bluffs Middle School teacher honored with statewide award

Feb 19, 2025

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recognizes outstanding educators each year, and for 2025, an Illini Bluffs Middle School teacher is among the distinguished honorees.

ISBE’s annual awards program includes two major categories: the Illinois Teacher of the Year cohort and the Those Who Excel awards, which celebrate exceptional educators and school staff across the state. Within Those Who Excel, honorees are recognized at three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Award of Special Recognition, and the Award of Meritorious Service.

Illini Bluffs Community Unit School District #327 is proud to announce that Mrs. Jackie Sellers, Middle School English Language Arts Teacher, has been awarded the prestigious Award of Excellence.

According to ISBE, "the Award of Excellence is the highest honor within the Those Who Excel program. " Recipients of this award demonstrate an unwavering commitment to educational equity and student success. They foster positive school cultures by collaborating with colleagues, students, and families. These educators are lifelong learners who connect their schools to the broader community and serve as role models for fellow education professionals.

"We are immensely proud of Mrs. Sellers for receiving this well-deserved recognition," said Superintendent Dr. Roger Alvey. "She is an outstanding educator whose dedication and passion inspire both students and colleagues. Her contributions to our district are invaluable, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her on our team. "

The Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year Awards recognize remarkable classroom teachers, administrators, teams, volunteers, and school support personnel who make a lasting impact on their school communities. ISBE will formally celebrate all honorees at its annual awards banquet on May 17, 2025.
