Lake County has announced the approval of a resolution to accept a $959,752 grant aimed at replacing water main pipes in the Idlewild and Dady & Decker neighborhoods in unincorporated Grayslake. The announcement was made in a news release on February 21, 2025.

According to the announcement, this project will replace 10,000 feet of aging water main pipe that has been in place for over 50 years. Construction is expected to commence in 2026. The funding originates from the 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act, with the grant secured through Congressman Brad Schneider’s office.

Lake County approved a resolution through its Public Works and Transportation Committee to accept a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Community Project Funding program for these water main upgrades. The total project cost is $1,199,752, with Lake County covering the remaining $240,000. According to Lake County, the grant term runs from September 2, 2024, to September 30, 2029.

The Lake County Board Public Works and Transportation Committee handles transportation infrastructure, water management, and sanitary districts within the county. It oversees funds related to transportation, including the Motor Fuel Tax Fund, County Option Motor Fuel Tax, RTA Sales Tax, and the Bridge Fund. The committee collaborates with agencies such as the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency, North Shore Water Reclamation District, and watershed work groups focused on the Des Plaines River and North Branch of the Chicago River. Meetings take place on scheduled Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. in the County Building in Waukegan, according to Lake County.

The Lake County Board consists of 19 elected members representing different districts and is responsible for approving the county budget, financial matters, and ordinances affecting government departments. Meetings are held in person at the County Administrative Tower in Waukegan or remotely via Zoom, with schedules and agendas available online. The board convenes monthly for regular sessions, along with additional committee meetings, all of which can be viewed live on LCTV, according to Lake County.
