Joining the middle school band offers students a range of benefits, including improved self-discipline, problem-solving skills, and social abilities. Research also indicates that band members tend to score higher on college entrance exams. The process for joining the band is straightforward.
Instrument Trials/Sign Up Night:
On Wednesday, March 19th, an open house will be held from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the BHS PAC for all interested incoming 6th and 7th-grade band students. This event will cover discussions about the band program, instrument demonstrations, and assistance in selecting an instrument. Students interested in percussion will need to participate in a short audition due to limited spaces available in the percussion class; those not selected can choose an alternate instrument class.
Getting Signed Up for Band:
Band directors will record each student’s chosen instrument during this event to ensure enrollment in the correct band class.
Ordering Your Instrument and Method Book:
Families will have the opportunity to order instruments and method books at the sign-up night with assistance from Voigt Music Center representatives who will be present to answer questions and guide through the ordering process. Orders can be placed that night or information provided for future orders. Additional materials for each instrument may also be purchased at this time. Students requiring a provided instrument can discuss school rental options with band directors during this event; Voigt representatives will explain the Rent-to-Own process as well.
FAQ:
- If a student already has an instrument at home, attendance is still required for ordering any additional needed materials, ensuring correct class signup, and meeting band directors.
- Unsure students are encouraged to attend so their questions or concerns can be addressed which might assist them in making a decision about joining.
- Financial constraints should not deter any student from joining; programs have reserved instruments available for families needing financial assistance- all interested students are welcome to request these instruments during sign- up night.
