The Village of Lake Zurich continues its commitment to environmental sustainability through its 100% Green Choice Aggregation Program, which offers residents and small businesses electricity sourced entirely from renewable energy.

The Village’s efforts have earned national recognition, ranking #1 in Illinois and #10 in the United States for renewable energy certificate creation, and helping Lake Zurich maintain its status as an EPA-certified Green Power Community.

In partnership with MC Squared Energy Services, this initiative began on July 1, 2023, and will continue through August 1, 2025, at a locked-in rate designed to provide both environmental and financial benefits. After August 1, the Green Choice program will be renewed at updated locked-in rates.

Under the Green Choice program, electricity is matched 100% by Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from Midwest-based wind, solar, and hydroelectric sources. This makes Lake Zurich one of the leading communities in the nation for green energy adoption. The Village currently generates over 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year in green energy, equivalent to taking 7,836 gas- powered cars off the road for an entire year.

At a locked-in supply rate of 7.95 cents per kWh, participants benefit from price stability even as energy markets fluctuate. Notably, ComEd’s summer rate is set to rise to approximately 9.5 cents per kWh on June 1, 2025 — meaning that Lake Zurich’s 100% Green Choice Program will be both greener and more affordable through its current term ending August 1, 2025. After that, the program will renew at updated rates.
