Beach Park District 3 has issued a safety notice regarding a new TikTok trend that poses significant risks to students and school facilities. The trend involves students inserting objects such as graphite pencils, paperclips, and other hazardous items into electrical outlets and Chromebook ports.

In a letter addressed to families, Dr. Denise Wilcox, Superintendent of Beach Park District 3, emphasized the dangers associated with this activity. "While we work hard to keep students safe," she wrote, "we are asking for families to have conversations with their children about the risks associated with participating in activities like this. "

Dr. Wilcox highlighted the physical dangers to students and others nearby, noting that participants in the trend would face significant consequences due to its potential threat of fire or electrocution. "The physical risk to themselves and others is deeply concerning," she said.

The district urges parents and guardians to discuss these risks with their children promptly. "We appreciate your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe and our students protected," Dr. Wilcox concluded.
