The City of Highland Park invites the community to attend its annual Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 26, at 11 AM. The event will be held at the Highland Park High School Auditorium (433 Vine Ave.) in partnership with American Legion Post #145, Jewish War Veterans Post #29, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4737.
Captain Steven Yargosz, USN, Commander of Naval Station Great Lakes, is set to deliver the keynote address. The City has expressed its gratitude for the partnership with Naval Station Great Lakes in honoring fallen service members.
Master Gunnery Sergeant Gino Osorio, Marine Corps (Ret. ), will be recognized as a Hero Among Us. Additionally, Major Laura Joyce-Hubbard, USAF (Ret.) and Highland Park Poet Laureate will read a specially written poem for the event. The Highland Park High School band is scheduled to perform patriotic music, and a bell ceremony will also take place.
In observance of Memorial Day, City administrative services will be closed on Monday, May 26. Residents requiring non-emergency assistance may call 847.432.7730.
Refuse, recycling, and curbside compost collection will experience a one-day delay throughout the week. For inquiries regarding the pickup schedule, residents can contact Lakeshore Recycling Systems at 773.685.8111.
Transportation services will also be affected; both the Highland Park Connector and Pace Bus Routes 471 and 472 will not operate on Monday, May 26. Regular service will resume for the rest of the week.
