The Waukegan Park District is set to host its 34th Annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Bevier Park, located at 2255 W. York House Road in Waukegan, Illinois.

Participants in the derby will compete for prizes awarded for the smallest and largest fish caught overall. Competitions are divided into age groups: four years or younger, five to eight years, nine to twelve years, thirteen to sixteen years, and seventeen years or older. Prizes will be given to those who catch the three largest fish in each age group.

The tradition of the Fishing Derby began in 1990 at Roosevelt Park but has been held at Bevier Park since 1995. This year’s event will feature over 700 pounds of fish stocked in Bevier Pond.

On-site check-in starts at 7 a.m., and preregistration is required for all participants. Each participant is allowed only one pole or rod. The entry fee is $3 for residents aged twelve or younger and $5 for those aged thirteen or older; nonresidents pay $5 and $7 respectively.

Registration can be completed online or at the Field House Sports, Fitness & Aquatics Center located at 800 Baldwin Avenue in Hinkston Park. Worms will be available for purchase on-site.
