At Monday's Village Board Meeting, Mayor Tom Hood, the Veterans Commission, and the community recognized Gurnee's Hometown Heroes by presenting them and their families with distinguished banners.

The program was launched last fall to honor veterans and service members from the Village of Gurnee who have served in the US Armed Forces or are currently serving. The banners serve as tributes to past and present members of the Armed Forces. While these banners do not recognize every service member from the Village of Gurnee, they aim to preserve the memory of some of Gurnee's Hometown Heroes.

The program is expected to run again around Veterans Day later in the year. The Village of Gurnee expressed gratitude towards all veterans and Hometown Heroes for their service.
