Lake County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigators are examining a multivehicle collision that took place on Tuesday morning in Beach Park. On June 3, 2025, at around 8:00 a.m., deputies responded to the scene of the crash at Sheridan Road and Michigan Boulevard.
Preliminary findings indicate that a GMC Acadia, driven by a 74-year-old man from Zion, was traveling northbound on North Sheridan Road. For reasons yet unknown, the vehicle struck the stop arm of a school bus loading children near Mawman Avenue. The bus contained two children and the driver; none were injured. Additionally, the children boarding the bus were unharmed.
The GMC continued northbound and sideswiped a Ford Focus driven by a 49-year-old man from Beach Park, causing it to hit a utility pole. The GMC then collided with a southbound Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 39-year-old man from Winthrop Harbor and a southbound Ford Flex driven by a 28-year-old woman from Fox Lake.

The GMC's driver was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The drivers of both the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Colorado sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were also hospitalized. The driver of the Ford Flex was not injured.
Authorities suggest that the GMC's driver may have experienced a medical episode before the crashes occurred. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues to investigate the incident.
