An 18-year-old man from Gurnee has been arrested and charged by Lake County Sheriff's detectives following an alleged shooting incident involving a family member on Wednesday night, June 11.
According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call reporting a person shot at approximately 8:35 p.m. on June 11 in the 34000 block of Route 21, unincorporated Gurnee. Upon arrival, deputies found a 61-year-old resident with a gunshot wound to his face. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim was in his bedroom using his cellphone when he was shot. The sheriff's office identified the suspect as Francis Lodesky, who resides at the same address and is related to the victim. A .410-gauge revolver loaded with birdshot was reportedly used in the shooting and was recovered at the scene along with over 50 additional firearms, all of which were taken into evidence. The release said that the shooting appeared unprovoked and that Lodesky allegedly had an intent to kill.
Lodesky was arrested at the scene by sheriff's deputies and taken to the Lake County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case details before approving charges against Lodesky for attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Additional charges may be forthcoming. The state's attorney's office intends to file a petition for Lodesky's detention while awaiting trial.
The release emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
