The Waukegan Park District has announced the schedule for its 2025 GO WAUKEGAN community walks. These free outdoor events, held at various parks throughout the year, aim to encourage individuals and families to include at least thirty minutes of walking in their daily routine.

GO WAUKEGAN is an initiative launched by the Waukegan Park District in partnership with the Lake County Health Department. It focuses on improving local residents' health and wellness through activities, education, and collaboration, emphasizing outdoor community walks.

The scheduled walks are as follows: a Summer Walk on June 21 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Hinkston Park; a Wag ‘N’ Walk on July 19 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., also at Hinkston Park; a Glow Walk on August 13 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bevier Park; a Zombie Walk on October 18 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hinkston Park; and a Winter Hot Chocolate Walk on December 6 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Downtown Waukegan, which will coincide with the City of Waukegan’s Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Each walk will feature a unique theme. Notably, the Glow Walk received recognition from the Illinois Park and Recreation Association with an award for Outstanding Program or Special Event in Division II during the 2020 IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference.

Participation in these walks does not require preregistration, and they are open to all community members free of charge. In case of bad weather, events will be rescheduled.
