The Board of Tri-Valley CUSD #3 has announced a resolution to adopt an eLearning program intended to replace the district's scheduled emergency days. The initiative aims to facilitate student instruction electronically when students cannot be physically present.
The resolution outlines that the eLearning program may utilize various means of electronic communication, including the Internet, telephones, texts, and chat rooms, to ensure interaction between teachers and students. It emphasizes meeting the needs of all learners by verifying required instructional hours for each student participating in an eLearning day.
Measures are included to ensure home access or access from other remote facilities for all students involved in the program. This includes providing non-electronic materials to those without necessary technology and ensuring appropriate learning opportunities for students with special needs.
The resolution also focuses on monitoring and verifying each student's electronic participation and addressing how much control students have over their time, pace, and means of learning. Effective notice will be provided to students and their parents or guardians regarding specific days designated for eLearning.
Training provisions are made for both staff and students to prepare them for participation in eLearning days. The resolution ensures any legally required collective bargaining negotiations take place and commits to reviewing the implemented program to address any difficulties encountered.
Communication protocols regarding general expectations and responsibilities will be shared with teachers, staff, students, and parents at least 30 days prior to implementation. Additionally, it ensures that all teachers and staff involved have access to necessary hardware and software.
The Regional Office of Education will verify the program to ensure access for all students within the school district. The implementation is set for a three- year period (2025-26, 2026-27, 2027-28) before renewal considerations.
The resolution is scheduled to be adopted on July 16th, 2025 by a roll call vote.
