Lake County Sheriff's Deputies successfully managed a standoff with an armed woman in Beach Park on June 27, 2025. Deputies responded to a call at around 5:50 p.m. concerning the well-being of a 36-year-old woman threatening self-harm. Upon their arrival, the woman confronted them with a machete before retreating to her backyard and making suicidal statements.
The deputies employed crisis intervention techniques, speaking calmly to the woman for over 20 minutes. Their efforts led to the woman dropping the machete and being guided away from it. She was then escorted to an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital for care.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg commended his team, stating, "Crisis intervention and de-escalation are skills our staff believe in and continually train for. I am so proud of our entire agency for always focusing on helping those who are in need and truly caring about the community. Excellent job to Deputies David Bandillo, Admir Duratovic, Lawrence Popp, Jessica Fill, and Andrew Martini handling this intense situation."
