Lake County Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a man from Zion for possessing child pornography. The arrest followed an investigation that began after detectives received a tip from an online cloud storage service. The tip indicated that child pornography had been uploaded from a device in Lake County.

The investigation led detectives to a residence on the 3000 block of Gabriel Avenue in Zion. A search warrant was obtained and executed on July 8, 2025, with assistance from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. During the search, electronic devices containing child pornography were seized. These devices belonged to Sergio Guillen, age 23, who resides at the address.

Following the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against Guillen for three counts of possessing child pornography. Additional charges may be filed as the case progresses.

Sheriff John D. Idleburg commented on the arrest: "Thanks to the relentless efforts of our Cyber Crimes Unit, another child predator has been identified and arrested. These types of arrests highlight the ongoing threat these offenders pose to children and the importance of staying vigilant. Our team works tirelessly to protect kids, but prevention starts at home. Please have regular conversations with your children about the dangers of sharing personal information or inappropriate content online."

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to detain Guillen while he awaits trial. At his initial court appearance this morning, he was ordered to remain in custody at Lake County Jail pending a detention hearing scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
