The Lake Forest Police Department participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation's Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program from June 20 to July 7, 2025. This initiative aimed to enhance road safety by targeting impaired drivers across the state.
During this period, Lake Forest officers conducted three enforcement details and made 15 traffic stops. The campaign resulted in 12 citations, including three for speeding and nine for other offenses such as driving under the influence (DUI) and driving while license suspended (DWLS). Two arrests were made during these operations.
The statewide effort involved more than 200 law enforcement agencies focusing on removing drunk, high, and drugged drivers from roads. In one instance, Lake Forest officers discovered open alcohol and cannabis in a vehicle, leading to an arrest.
Chief John Burke commented on the campaign's importance: "Intoxicated drivers are a danger to everyone. Our officers have highly specialized training to conduct Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement. If you’re drinking, smoking, or using substances while driving, you will be pulled over and arrested."
The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High Get a DUI," and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns are supported by federal traffic safety funds provided through IDOT. These efforts are further reinforced by IDOT’s "It’s Not a Game" media campaign that highlights the serious consequences of impaired and unsafe driving behaviors.
