Lake County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Mundelein man on July 15, suspected of possessing numerous images and videos depicting child pornography, many involving children under the age of 13.
"Our Cybercrime Unit has once again located a child predator operating in Lake County. We will continue aggressively pursuing those who prey on children and the vulnerable, and we remain committed to collaborating with our law enforcement partners to bring them to justice," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said, according to a news release.
According to the news release, Lake County Sheriff's detectives received a tip from an online social media network that one of its platform users uploaded pornography from a device in Lake County. An investigation by sheriff's detectives determined the likely source was a residence in the 21500 block of West Hampshire Place, unincorporated Mundelein.
The release further said that sheriff's detectives obtained a search warrant and conducted the search with the Illinois State Attorney General's Office on July 15. Lake County Sheriff's Electronic Detection Canine Enzo assisted in the search. The team found and seized electronics containing child pornography belonging to John C. Dressel, 22, of the same residence. Detectives determined that Dressel was also allegedly distributing child pornography.
According to the release, the Lake County State's Attorney's office reviewed the investigation and approved charges against Dressel: two counts of disseminating child pornography (Class X felony) and seven counts of possessing child pornography of children under the age of 13 (Class 2 felony).
The release noted that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
