Lake County Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a man from unincorporated Mundelein for possessing and distributing child pornography. The arrest followed a tip from an online social media network indicating that a user uploaded child pornography from a device in Lake County. Detectives traced the source to a residence on the 21500 block of West Hampshire Place.
A search warrant was executed at the residence on July 15, 2025, with assistance from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and Lake County Sheriff’s Electronic Detection Canine Enzo. Electronics containing child pornography were seized, belonging to John C. Dressel, 22, who resided there.
Dressel faces charges including two counts of disseminating child pornography and seven counts of possessing child pornography involving children under 13. Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, "Our Cybercrime Unit has once again located a child predator operating in Lake County. We will continue aggressively pursuing those who prey on children and the vulnerable, and we remain committed to collaborating with our law enforcement partners to bring them to justice."
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to detain Dressel while awaiting trial. He is scheduled for a detention hearing this afternoon. It is important to note that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
