Lake County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a man following an incident involving assault with a knife. The suspect, identified as Angel Diaz, 25, from the 400 block of Raphael Avenue in unincorporated Lincolnshire, was apprehended after allegedly attacking a woman on July 16, 2025.

Deputies responded to a call at approximately 8:25 p.m. regarding an aggravated battery in progress at an apartment located in the 600 block of Washington Avenue, unincorporated Lake Bluff. A witness reported that Diaz was armed with a knife and threatening others inside the residence.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that Diaz had fled the scene after realizing law enforcement had been contacted. Preliminary investigations indicated that Diaz was acquainted with the two residents of the apartment he was visiting. Witnesses said that Diaz appeared intoxicated and initiated an argument with a 25-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man living there.

During the altercation, Diaz reportedly slashed at the woman with a knife, injuring her hand, and subsequently choked her. Both victims managed to escape briefly and called for help, prompting Diaz to flee. The woman's injuries did not require medical treatment.

Later that night, around 12:45 a.m., authorities received another call from the victim reporting that Diaz had returned to the apartment and was causing a disturbance by pounding on the door. Deputies quickly responded and took him into custody.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved charges against Diaz including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery – strangulation, and aggravated assault. He is currently held in Lake County Jail awaiting his initial court hearing. It is important to note that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
