North Chicago School District 187 has announced a series of health, academic, and athletic events for September. The district will host free immunization and physical clinics at North Chicago Community High School (NCCHS) on September 4 and again on September 25 with the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Clinic. Forms are required to access these services. Additionally, the Asthma Van will visit Alexander Elementary on September 25.

For students and parents, NCCHS is organizing grade-level town halls on September 2 for each class: Freshmen at 9:45 AM, Seniors at 10:30 AM, Juniors at 11:15 AM, and Sophomores at 1:15 PM. There will also be a virtual workshop in Spanish titled "Your Child's First Teacher" focused on communicating with teachers, scheduled for September 10 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

A Freshman BBQ event is planned for families and staff on September 18 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the NCCHS Courtyard. Senior parents can attend a FAFSA Workshop to receive assistance with college financial aid applications on September 24 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the NCCHS College & Career Center. Progress reports for the first quarter will be sent home on September 26 for students attending Alexander and A.J. Katzenmaier schools.

Athletic events this month include multiple home football games against Waukegan (September 5), Wauconda (September 12), and Grayslake Central (September 26). Volleyball matches are set throughout the month as well, including a homecoming game against Lakes Community on September 25.

The Homecoming Dance will take place in the NCCHS Main Gym on Friday, September 27 from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

North Chicago School District represents several schools across Lake County, including A.J. Katzenmaier Academy, Evelyn Alexander School, Forrestal Elementary School, Learn Charter Schools campuses, Neal Math Science Academy, and North Chicago Community High School.

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), District 187 employs over two hundred teachers earning an average salary of $52,463; nearly seventy percent are women while just over thirty percent are men. No teachers reported more than ten absences during a school year.

Demographic information shows that District 187’s student body is approximately fifty-six percent Hispanic, thirty-one percent Black, nearly seven percent White, and less than one percent Asian.

In terms of finances,the district spent $25,262 per student in fiscal year 2020, amounting to a total expenditure of over $83 million.
