The Lake County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Group (SIG) has arrested a man from Waukegan on charges of drug trafficking. The task force, which is funded by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), completed an investigation that led to the arrest.

The investigation began when SIG developed information suggesting that Agustin Arias, Jr., 41, residing on the 900 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Waukegan, was involved in selling narcotics. Detectives conducted an undercover operation and found that Arias was distributing cocaine in Lake County. Throughout the investigation, Arias allegedly sold drugs multiple times to undercover detectives within 500 feet of an elementary school.

On July 17, 2025, sheriff's detectives arrested Arias following a traffic stop. After examining the details of the case, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against him for three counts of delivery of a controlled substance near a school. A petition to detain Arias while awaiting trial was filed by the State’s Attorney’s Office and subsequently granted by the Court during a detention hearing.

Arias is currently held at the Lake County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 6, 2025, at 1:30 PM in courtroom T020. It is important to note that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
