State, county, and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois are collaborating for Speed Awareness Day to address speed-related violations. On July 23rd, the Lake Forest Police Department will intensify efforts to ensure road safety.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, speeding is a significant factor in motor vehicle incidents. The department reports that 44.9% of all motor vehicle fatalities involve speeding, 36.3% of injury crashes are speed-related, and 31.1% of roadway crashes result from speeding.

"Speeding is a choice that puts everyone at risk," said Police Chief John Burke. "It reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely, increases stopping distance, and makes crashes more severe. We urge everyone to slow down and make the safe choice."

The initiative aims to save lives by encouraging drivers to adhere to speed limits.
