Three Buffalo Grove residents have been recognized with Caring Community Program awards for their contributions to the community. The program highlights individuals, groups, and organizations in Buffalo Grove who demonstrate leadership, compassion, and innovation. Awards are presented twice a year during Village Board Committee of the Whole meetings.
The August 2025 recipients are Adhya Garlapati, Gina Kapinos, and Rob Klawans.
Adhya Garlapati was honored for her leadership and service. She founded the 4C STEM Club at age 12, engaging local students in environmental projects such as prairie restoration and recycling. Garlapati also volunteers with the Buffalo Grove Prairie Gardeners and Environmental Action Team. She has contributed over 150 hours of service annually and received several national honors for her volunteerism.
Gina Kapinos was recognized for her compassion within the community. As a mother and caregiver, she supports her daughter with special needs and assists neighbors facing challenges like dementia. Professionally, she serves as Finance Manager at Special Gifts Theatre, where she promotes inclusion for people with disabilities through volunteer work at performances and fundraising events.
Rob Klawans was acknowledged for his role at GiveNKind, volunteering three days each week since 2022 to help distribute donated goods to nonprofits across the region. He received the 2024 Presidential Volunteer Gold Service Award after logging more than 500 volunteer hours. Klawans also sits on GiveNKind’s Board of Directors, contributing expertise in logistics and finance.
The Caring Community Program seeks to recognize those whose actions enhance quality of life in Buffalo Grove by reflecting values of collaboration and compassion through ongoing involvement in local initiatives.
