The Village of Gurnee has introduced a new emergency alert system, using technology from Regroup, to improve communication with residents, businesses, and visitors during emergencies and routine service changes.
The new system provides notifications through phone calls, text messages, emails, or a mobile app. Alerts cover a range of topics including active shooter situations, crimes in progress or terror threats (with automatic enrollment), severe weather warnings issued by the National Weather Service, public safety tips such as scams and fraud alerts, crime updates, road closures and traffic information. It also includes service announcements about garbage collection, recycling, landscape waste pickup, and mosquito spraying.
Users can personalize their settings to choose how they receive alerts and select which types of notifications are most relevant to them.
According to the Village’s announcement: "Even if you were previously registered for the Village’s old alert system, you must sign up again to continue receiving notifications. The previous system is being retired and will no longer be used."
Residents are encouraged to register for the new alert system at www.gurnee.il.us/alerts. The registration process is described as quick and ensures continued access to timely information.
"Whether it’s a weather emergency, a traffic disruption, or an important safety update, the Village’s new system ensures the information you need is always at your fingertips," according to the statement from village officials.
