Granite City Community Unit School District 9 (GCSD9) has announced that bus routes and student schedules for the 2025-26 school year will be available on Skyward starting Friday, August 8 at 5 p.m. Families are asked to log in to their Skyward Family Access accounts to view transportation and schedule details for their children.

Eligibility for bus transportation is set by Illinois School Code, which states students living less than 1.5 miles from their assigned school do not qualify for transportation unless the route includes a significant safety hazard due to traffic. The district notes that "Hazardous routes for school busing must be approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in coordination with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)."

The district also cautioned families that changes to school boundary lines or neighborhood schools may mean some who previously qualified for transportation will no longer be eligible.

"If you have any questions, please email: information@gcsd9.net," the administration stated. "We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a great school year!"

GCSD9 serves several schools within Madison County, including Coolidge Junior High School, Frohardt Elementary School, Granite City High School, Grigsby Intermediate School, Maryville Elementary School, Mitchell Elementary School, Prather Elementary School, and Wilson Elementary School. More information about the district can be found at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/.

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, GCSD9 employs 320 teachers with an average salary of $67,898 before pension contributions; women make up 77.1 percent of teaching staff while men comprise 22.9 percent. The district reports that no teacher has more than ten absences per year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Student demographics in GCSD9 are reported as 65.3 percent White, 15.9 percent Black, 11.7 percent Hispanic, and 0.6 percent Asian (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
