District 102 welcomes new teachers as school year approaches

New teachers in District 102 gathered this week for orientation, marking the start of their roles in the district. Superintendent Dr. McIntyre welcomed the group and shared his vision for the coming year. “I encourage staff to embrace the rewarding work of shaping young learners,” said Dr. McIntyre.

Board President Sklansky also addressed the new staff. “On behalf of the Board of Education, I express gratitude for the educators’ commitment and underscore the district’s support for their success,” Sklansky said.

During orientation, new teachers met with mentors, learned about district programs, and prepared for their responsibilities in classrooms across Aptakisic-Tripp Community Consolidated School District 102. The district includes Aptakisic Junior High School, Earl Pritchett School, Meridian School, and Tripp School in Lake County (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The teaching staff at District 102 consists of 188 educators who earn an average salary of $81,922 before pension contributions; most are women, with 87.5 percent female and 12.5 percent male teachers. There are no teachers in the district with more than ten absences per school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The student population is diverse: 37.3 percent White, 1.1 percent Black, 5.9 percent Hispanic, and 50.8 percent Asian (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). In terms of finances, District 102 spent $25,480 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure of $64,898,732 (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Upcoming events include opening day for staff, open house events, meet-and-greets with families, and the first day of school.
