Residents and visitors will have the chance to explore Highland Park’s art and architecture through two public tours scheduled for this fall.

The Ft. Sheridan Art, Architecture & History Tour is set for Saturday, September 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will meet at the Centennial Legacy Statue Memorial on Leonard Wood West in Ft. Sheridan. The tour will be led by Steve Tilkin and Matt Fuller, who will discuss the history of Ft. Sheridan and its Romanesque architecture. Attendees will also view several works of art, such as the statue of Gen. Philip Sheridan, a large red-tailed hawk sculpture at the preserve, and outdoor pieces near Bartlett Ravine. Organizers recommend comfortable walking shoes due to uneven terrain. Registration is limited; interested individuals are asked to email Steve Tilkin for details.

On Saturday, October 4, from noon to 2 p.m., artist Mary Seyfarth will guide the Downtown Highland Park Public Art Tour. This tour covers a 1.5-mile route starting at Stupey Cabin (1731 St. Johns Ave.) and features various large-scale sculptures and installations throughout downtown Highland Park. Registration is required and can be completed online.

Both tours aim to highlight Highland Park’s dedication to arts and culture while offering educational experiences about local heritage.
