The Village of Vernon Hills is in the process of acquiring the historic Cuneo Mansion & Gardens from Loyola University Chicago. The university has decided to discontinue operations at the Cuneo Mansion & Gardens campus and will transfer ownership of the property to the village. This acquisition is being carried out under a 2015 Preservation Agreement between Loyola University and the Village of Vernon Hills.

The transfer is expected to be completed within the next two months, with formal acquisition set for January 2026.

"At this time, the Village does not have any plans for the use of the property," said Village President Thom Koch, Jr. "Further evaluation will take place following the formal transfer to determine the best path forward in a manner that reflects both the community's interests and the property's legacy."
