The Round Lake Police Department has received a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation. The grant aims to support enhanced traffic safety enforcement efforts to reduce crashes and save lives.
According to the department, the funding will allow officers to increase enforcement of laws related to impaired driving, seat belt use, speeding, and other traffic safety measures. These initiatives will be conducted under the campaigns ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,’ ‘Click It or Ticket,’ and ‘Drive High, Get a DUI.’ The main goal is to ensure roadway safety for all users and hold violators accountable.
The grant period runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. During this time, the Round Lake Police Department plans to conduct additional enforcement operations, especially during high-risk periods. These operations will target behaviors such as speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, failure to yield, disobeying traffic signals, and seat belt violations.
“These high-visibility enforcement efforts are part of our ongoing mission to keep Illinois roads safe for all,” stated the department.
