The Village of Vernon Hills has announced the recommended hours for trick-or-treating this year. According to the announcement, children can go door-to-door on Friday, October 31, from 4 to 8 p.m.
The Vernon Hills Police Department has released a Halloween Safety Tips video to remind children, families, drivers, and residents about safety measures. The guidance for children includes staying in familiar neighborhoods, not entering strangers’ homes or vehicles, being careful when crossing streets, wearing reflective clothing, carrying a flashlight, and staying with a buddy or adult. Children are also advised to wait until they get home to eat their candy so an adult can check it first.
Residents who wish to participate in trick-or-treating are encouraged to turn on their exterior lights. The Village has provided "Yes" and "No" signs to help residents indicate their participation.
Drivers are reminded to use extra caution and reduce speed, especially in neighborhoods.
The announcement concludes with, "Have a safe and happy Halloween!"
