Joe Weiss, co-host of the Lake Forest Podcasts, said the proposed bylaw change would align the caucus election process with regular elections by allowing people who can’t attend in person, such as students or those out of town, to vote remotely instead of being left out.
“Basically, it's catching the caucus election process up with the regular election process," said Weiss on the Lake Forest podcast. “And that is, if you're not able to physically be there, you shouldn't be disenfranchised from voting on candidates, leading, bylaws, or future bylaw changes. This is a change in bylaws, so it needs a supermajority vote.”
“I have two kids who are away at college, and they can't vote in these things even though they're voters because there's no remote procedure," said Weiss. “People are sick or, you know, out of town, whatever. Regular election—no problem. You can vote by mail or remotely. I'm not sure what the exact mechanism is for that.”
