Illinois State Representative Tom Weber has highlighted the importance of stricter background checks for massage therapists. He stated that many people rely on massage therapy and related treatments as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and emphasized the need for safety in these settings.

“No one should have to worry about being violated in that treatment setting because of weak background check policies. That’s why I’ve been working to pass legislation to ensure that massage therapists must undergo the same background checks and reviews as similar state-licensed healthcare workers,” Weber said.

Weber, a Republican, was elected to represent Illinois' 64th House District in 2019, succeeding Barbara Wheeler.
