The University of Alabama Treble Chorus has been selected to perform at the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) Professional Development Conference in Fullerton, California, on November 7. Chloe Nicole Lewis of Deerfield is a member of the chorus.
The NCCO conference is a national biennial event that features select collegiate choirs from across the country. This year, only 12 institutions were chosen to perform after adjudication by a panel of experts in the field.
The UA Treble Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble consisting of 49 undergraduate and graduate singers from more than 35 academic disciplines. The group emphasizes musical excellence and community, with singers collaborating in rehearsal, building personal connections to repertoire, and supporting each other's musical growth.
The mission of the UA Treble Chorus is to unite treble singers through choral music, believing that "excellence and joy are not opposites." The ensemble follows their director's motto: "make serious music unseriously."
For its NCCO performance, the choir will present a set titled "Music's Transformation," which incorporates humor, whole-hearted singing, body percussion, and dance. The UA Treble Chorus will represent The University of Alabama, the state of Alabama, and the southern region at the event in California.
The University of Alabama is part of The University of Alabama System and serves as the state's flagship university. According to information provided by UA, it offers over 200 degree programs on its campus and supports more than 30 research centers. As Alabama's largest higher education institution, UA contributes to economic growth within the state and beyond.
