Twenty-one of suburban Chicago’s 200 highest tax-paying commercial properties are in Lake County, according to a Local Government Information Services (LGIS) analysis of property tax data from the Cook County Treasurer. Collectively, these 21 properties contributed $53.58 million to Lake County’s public funds, which go towards municipal salaries and local school districts.
Fifty-one of the 54 Lake County police and fire pension funds paid out a total of $67,965,895 in benefits to 1,310 retirees and inactive recipients in 2016 while gaining $618,166 on their investments, according to a Lake County Gazette analysis of the funds' mandated financial filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance.
