Deerfield promotes yard-work program to link teens with those in need
As winter nears, the Village of Deerfield is promoting its TeenConnect matchmaking program that links teens willing to do yard work, including snow removal, for residents who could use the help. TeenConnect is the village's name for its growing list of local teens who have made themselves available for leaf raking, lawn mowing, snow shoveling and other outdoor maintenance jobs.

Deerfield launches express-permit process for ash tree removal
The Village of Deerfield is offering a speedy new permitting process for ash tree removal, the village said on Wednesday. The new process, which only applies to ash-tree removal, asks residents to submit photos of the base and leaves of the tree in question, along with the permit application. No permit fee is required for ash tree removal.

Text-a-Tip offers crisis hot-line services through cell phones
Text-a-Tip, an anonymous text-based crisis hot line backed by Linking Efforts Against Drugs (LEADS) was successfully implemented in Deerfield and Highland Park schools in March. The program is now available to all Lake County communities and will soon be available in cities across the country.
