The Mundelein Board of Trustees and Mayor Steve Lentz have invited dozens of World War II veterans from Mundelein to a World War II Veterans' Recognition Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, before the board's regular meeting at Village Hall, 300 Plaza Circle.

Approximately 40 WWII veterans have been invited, but veterans from all wars are invited to attend.

“The courage, dedication, self-sacrifice and compassion of the World War II generation continues to inspire our nation,” Lentz said. “In fact, the World War II generation in its entirety has provided a model of national unity and community that will continue to serve as a source of inspiration for current and future generations of Americans. We are very hopeful that many of our Mundelein World War II veterans will be able to attend the ceremony. We would be honored and humbled to be in their presence.”

Lentz sent a personal invitation to each veteran and will present the veterans who can attend with a Mayoral Proclamation.

This year is the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII. National Archives records show that  8,713 Illinois soldiers were killed, missing or wounded during WWII.
